"He likes it rough"
DuYun was fab tonite at the Cornelia Street Cafe where she performed with Gareth Flowers and Phil Moffa. She did about 10 pieces that traversed the gamut and evinced disparate inspirations ranging from jazz to cute chinese hip hop pop. Incidentally that song was about communication on the cellular level, and yet it sounded like something out of Bristol, England in the mid nineties.. or at least from a chinese take-out place in Bristol. Trip hop ni hao. Then there was the gutteral "Angel's Bone" (libretto by Royce Vavarek, of Dog Days fame), in which DuYun moaned and screamed about a partner who "likes it rough" and clearly "can't get enough". I can honestly say that she is unpredictable and original. Go see her if you can!
Thank you for being a frien Thank you for being a frien Thank you for being a frien Thank you for being If you happy and you know it...

Big Plans for a Newborn Gay Creation
MEN was great last night at their show in BK. JD brought it with the geek chic trans power as did her bandmates... is that they dyke version of James Iha? The opening acts of "Creep" and "No Bra" certainly lived up to their namesake, but in the end left me seated in my private VIP yawning. "No Bra" really should wear one. I loved that there is something LeTigre-ish to latch onto right now. I really miss them and the days of jumping on stage thrashing band equipment. Hey - maybe that's how my knee got all fakatah. Oy... whatever, I've gotta fuck my best.
Here's some classic LeTigre - for the hoo hoos and ha haas....Enjoy!

HAWT
The movie was hot and heavy. Heartbreaking to see Igor's wife endure his infidelity, but hot between the sheets with Chanel. I recommend the film not only for it's beautiful photography, production design, cinematography - basically entire use of the film medium, but also for it's attempt to show the struggles of two tremendously creative people - as friends and enemies. Did I also mention that the sex was hawt?

Dynamic Duos
Long live the fashion bears (and chubs, Alber). I adore Costello Tagliapietra for obvious reasons, but most of all because they are the exact type of people that you don't expect to achieve success in the world of fashion. In fact, upon looking at them, you probably wouldn't even think of them as being interested in form fitting jersey dresses... but au contraire - didja catch their stuff at Uniqlo? I want that dress for me. For me. Lol.
Check out this video that I found on Youtube where the two designers provide a bit of their background and how they envision the clothing they create.
When I was a Literature/Rhetoric major in college, I thought that the only way to become a designer was to attend an design school. At least that was the fastest way in my mind. What Laura and Kate Mulleavy have proven, however, is that not only don't you need to go to a famous design school, but you don't even have to have studied design. The women of Rodarte were English and Art history majors in college and since graduating have produced one of the most lauded labels today.
Isn't it Gorge? I saw Quicktake: Rodarte at the Cooper Hewitt a couple of months back and was taken by the designers materials and construction. What also stood out was the raw-raw-raw environment that was created to show off these miraculous creations. The constant back and forth between disintegration and fabrication results in a sublime beauty which clearly reflects the designers varied interests and insights. I just want to know how they learned to sew...
Check them out with Martha here.

Signe Chanel
Yo is THIS the prequel to LAGERFELD CONFIDENTIAL? I think so (maybe even better?)...made in 2005, Signe Chanel traces a CHANEL collection from Lagerfeld's sketches to the final runway presentation. Kinda like a project runway for the Chanel couturiére. This is sick-day viewing at its finest.
PS - I love the beginning segments to all the episodes - they're Frenchie funny. I especially love the beginning to episode 3. Karl is a genius.

Phenomenal
Diva as usual. That's was Erykah was last night. She made us, the crowd, wait. She teased us with an extended extended version of her intro, making us wonder if she was finishing the lost Harry Potter book backstage. She made us chant her name. But it was all worth it. All worth it.
She came out in a black trench and a top hat that kinda harkened back to her opening act, Janelle Monae. The costume was shed later in the performance and Erykah became a beam of light on the stage. Did I mention that her jewels were FRESH? I mean, com'on feather shaped golden earrings?! Stop. Stopitnow.
As usual, she had complete control over her singers and her band. It was as if they were all part of her body.. little fingertips of creativity that she extended at her will. The music was phenomenal.
She did some of her new songs, but rocked the old ones too... *Bag Lady*... But maybe my favorite part of the concert (maybe not - so many to choose from) was when she performed I WANT YOU from Worldwide Underground. The girl is on fire. So Creative and a huge inspiration.
So much more to discuss, but it will have to come later... until then, go get her new album...you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful Darling
I really didn't know that she wasn't authentic. Kind of strange since I do consider myself to be a big Warhol fan. So when I saw Beautiful Darling, I was at once amazed and shocked at how real Candy Darling was, as a woman, as an artist, and as a pioneer. Testimonies given by those who knew her abounded with anecdotes of how you really never thought that you were interacting with a man. Candy was always a woman. She was beautiful, for sure. If you have a chance, check out the movie, cuz, if for nothing else, the bitch was Faabulous...
